Abstract:

Em geral, o Simple Past é o tempo verbal mais usado nesta seção. Para introduzir o seu resumo, no entanto, use o Present Perfect. Já para mostrar a importância do seu trabalho, estabelecendo o contexto atual do problema a ser abordado, use o Simple Present:

- Exemplo de frase introdutória: “Recent studies have shed light on the nature of the burden of atopic dermatites.” – Eichenfeld e Gold (2017) - Seminars in Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery

- Exemplo de contextualização: “Crop protection is an essential component of fruit and vegetable production in Ethiopia.” Wolde e Abirdew (2019) - American Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering

Para falar de um fato ou resultado em um tempo ou local específico, use o Simple Past:

- Exemplo: “In 2019, the conservation status of 214 fungal species in Estonia was assessed according to IUCN criteria and an IUCN category was assigned to each táxon.” Saar et al. (2019) - Folia Cryptogamica Estonica

Introduction:

Na introdução ocorre um misto de Simple Present, Present Perfect, Simple Past e até mesmo Past Perfect.

O Simple Present é usado para declarar verdades inquestionáveis:

- Exemplo: “HIV is a virus that causes Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) by reducing a person's ability to fight the infection.” Alemayehu e Tilahun (2021) - Journal of Data Science and Analysis

O Present Perfect serve para falar sobre ocorrências passadas que têm influência sobre o contexto atual, ou que ainda não foram concluídas, ou mesmo que se desconheça a origem:

- Exemplo 1: “Physics has experienced many exciting discoveries in the second decade of the 21st century...” Wu (2021) - Stanford University

- Exemplo 2: “Studies have reported the prevalence, incidence and risk of health challenges and comorbidities experienced by people living with HIV (PLHIV) in developed countries.”

Já o Simple Past discorre acerca de pesquisas e resultados anteriores já concluídos:

- Exemplo: “Biango-Daniels et al. (2019) showed that processing apple fruits infected with Paecilomyces rot can result in apple juice significantly contaminated with patulin 53 and viable P. niveus ascospores.” Wang e Hodge (2021)

Por fim, o Past perfect é usado quando se menciona estudos concluídos que foram revisados posteriormente (também no tempo passado):

- Exemplo: “Additionally, Hilliand et al. had found that nGVS modulates spatial memory in healthy young adults24. We found that vestibular function improvements during the dynamic task were possibly caused by the stochastic resonance of nGVS.” Chen et al. (2021) – Revista Nature

Material and Methods:

Nesta seção o tempo predominante é o Simple Past, pois descreve as ações realizadas e materiais usados pela equipe de pesquisa do seu estudo. Tanto voz passiva como voz ativa podem ser usadas:

- Exemplo 1: “Ixodes ricinus ticks were collected from roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) in strict accordance with the recommendations of the French National Charter...” Hurry et al. (2021) – Revista Nature

- Exemplo 2: “To test this hypothesis, we analyzed the probability that the I. ricinus larvae acquired B. afzelii as a function of the size of the larval blood meal for the subset of larvae that fed on the 20 infected mice.” Hurry et al. (2021) – Revista Nature

O Simple Present também pode ser usado para explicar ou indicar diagramas, figuras, tabelas ou gráficos:

Exemplo: “Table 2 shows the materials and compounds

compositions used in this study.” Algaily e Puttajukr (2014) - International Journal of Technical Research and Applications
